Family Christmas Events near Zug 2025

Yes, Zurich has a heap of festive events, but don’t overlook Zug for offering plenty of options, either! With a lakeside setting and the snow-topped mountains in view, we think it’s the perfect place to get in the festive spirit at one of these events:

The Christchindli Market Baar

The Christchindli Market Baar always happens on the Saturday before the first Sunday in Advent (this year it’s on the 29 November 2025). You can expect a real festive feel in this traditional market, with a carousel, a vist from Santa Claus, gingerbread houses and more! Plus, there’s plenty of beautiful handicrafts on offer if you want to get your Christmas shoppoing underway.

  • Where: Christchindli-Märt, Marktgasse 10, 6340 Baar
  • When: 11am – 8pm, 29 November 2025

Trail of Light Lichterwegs in Zug

One of our favourite things (and something very unique to Switzerland) is the Lichterwegs (lit walks). You’ll find them dotted all over. If you’re in Zug you’re spolit for choice, with options in Baar, Ägeri, Hünenberg, Cham, and the Zugerberg itself.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept (like me last year), then it’s essentially a beautiful lit path that you can follow after dark. For example, the Zugerberg Trail of Lights is a 1.2km walk to Zugiblubbi House where there’s a nativity scene. Some of the trails will have special events with musical performances, such as the trail in Baar (full details on the schedule here.)

Christmas Market Hünenberg

Another great Christmas market not far from Zug is Hünenberg. With over 70 stalls, plus a historic carousel, dedicated craft and music corner – there’s plenty in explore in the run up to Christmas. This market is on a Friday, so it’s a nice after school activity to get you in the festive spirit!

  • Where: Heinrich von Hünenberg Hall and on the village square
  • When: 3.30pm – 8.30pm, 28 November 2025

Baar on Ice

New for 2025 – the much-loved ice skating option in Ägeri is moving back to Baar with a new home in
Lättich. As well as ice skating, there’s also the chance to watch curling and ice hockey at Baar on Ice. While you’re there, you can also check out the ice mini golf taking place at Beach House Delfin!

  • Where: Lättich, Baar
  • When: From 20 December 2025 – 15 February 2026. Check the site for full details on opening times and prices.

Lucerne Christmas Family Events 2025

Luzern is pretty magicial any time of year, and it takes it up a notch at Christmas. It has loads of festive fun to offer the whole family. Here are a few of our favourites. Stay tuned, we will be updating this list as we get closer to the festive season!

Luzerner Wiehnachtsmärt

There’s a whole host of festive markets on offer in Luzern over the festive period. One of our favourites for the family is the Christmas market in Luzern’s Old Town, the Luzerner Wiehnachtsmärt. The market boasts the largest Advent wreath in the whole of Central Switzerland (a huge 3m in diameter!). The area is tranformed by the arrival of wooden colourful houses, with plenty to explore.

  • Where: Franziskanerplatz, Luzern
  • When: 4 – 21 December 2025

Christkindli Market at Pilatus

One for the bucket list – a Christmas Market above 2,000m! This is a great early Christmas event at the top of Pilatus. There’s over 40 stalls to explore against the backdrop of the lake and Alps. If you want to combine a mountain visit with a festive activity, this is your option! Expect plenty of activities to entertain the little ones too, with Fairy Tales & Storytelling, plus creative tables where kids can print their own fabric and create their own badges or bags. Pilu (the friendly Pilatus dragon) and Santa Claus will also be making a special appearance.

  • Where: Pilatus Kulm (entrance is free, but a ticket to travel to the summit is required).
  • When: 14 – 16 November 2025

Stay tuned! More events coming soon.
